She passed away today in a Massachusetts Hospital, she had cancer, the story does not list a cause of death.
Ms Ferraro was the first female vice-presidential candidate to represent a major political party, when she became Walter Mondale's running mate in 1984.
The only issue I had with this, and I remember it well, is that Mondale when he began his search for a VP he all but announced “white men need not apply” He may have chosen the best person for the job, We’ll never know because he began the process in a PC attempt to pander rather than with an honest effort.
Ms Ferraro carried herself well over the years and I’ve had nothing but respect for her as a person, her former running mate however was a pandering dolt as a senator, has a VP and has a Presidential candidate, then he just fell off my radar.

It is very sad to see her pass away. She was a woman of principal and character – truly a significan¬t loss to the Democrat party. As a Conservati¬ve, Geraldine Ferraro was one of the few Liberal Democrats I respected.
